Candidate filing week is May 15–19

Filing week for public offices in Skagit County begins May 15 and runs through May 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. The last day to withdraw after filing is Mon., May 22, at 4:30 p.m.

Anyone wishing to file for an elected position in Skagit County may do so online; the starting point is the Skagit County Elections page.

Candidates are required to provide an email address when filing. Candidates who do not have their own personal e-mail may use a spouse’s, friend’s, sibling’s, etc. (with their permission), or they may create a free email account with yahoo, msn, gmail, or other provider.  All communication with the candidate is done via e-mail.

All potential candidates must be a current registered voter and must live within the limits of the municipality for which they are applying for public office.

There are three ways to file:

Online

Candidates may file online from May 15 at 9 a.m. through May 19 at 4 p.m. Online filing is available 24 hours a day, and candidates can use a credit card to pay any applicable filing fees.

By mail

Candidates who will be out of the area during the filing period can file by mail beginning Mon. May 1, 2017, and ending at 4:30 p.m. on the last day of the regular filing period. Filings received through the mail before or after the prescribed time, regardless of postmark, are invalid and will be returned.

In person

Skagit County Elections is open Mon. through Fri. from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 700 S. 2nd St., Room 201, in Mount Vernon
